Long Island Railroad Overpass

Jamaica, Queens, NY

March 2014

Albi Products Used: Albi Clad 800

The job was done on the overpass for the Long Island Railroad’s main terminal at Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens. This area encompassed an entire city block. The surface was prepped, primed then applied with Albi Clad 800 exterior intumescent to the 1709 Hydrocarbon Fire Test standard. The advantages of Albi Clad 800 were the cold weather application (it was started in February) and that it is a single-component material requiring no mixing. At the height of the project, 12-15 drums of material were applied every day using four 10:1 pumps.

This job was financed by Homeland Security. It was specified and engineered by LIRR architects and engineers.
